Doing Your Banking at the Post Office in Paris: Paris Travel Tip #16

Post Office Speed

If you’ve ever wondered why the lines are so slow at French post offices, it’s simply because post offices do much more than sell stamps – they’re also banks! In the past, this is where you used to go to make long distance phone calls as well.
You don’t want to waste valuable time posting letters or postcards, so take advantage of the automatic machines located in the corner of most post offices or ‘bureaux de poste’.

Simply place your card or envelope on the scale, then click on the options for English language to follow the subsequent directions. These machines normally accept coins. When you’re ready to post your letter or card, you’ll find slots for Paris and its ‘banleius’ suburbs or everywhere else.

You can also buy stamps at some ‘cafes/tabacs’.
