French visitors to Paris find the city just as expensive as foreigners do – the 50 Euro-a-night hotel is almost history, so Huguette and I were really delighted to stumble into the one-star Hotel Floridor, right next to the Denfert-Rochereau exit for the RER B line.
Because the hotel was doing some construction work, we weren’t able to take a peek at the rooms, but the desk clerk assured me that the hotel would be open for business afte April 1st (2008).
The desk clerk seemed quite nice and the location is perfect (you are a stone’s throw away from Rue Daguerre (my favorite street in the 14th arrondissement).

Room rates range from 50 to 55 Euros (70 for three people). (55 Euros is currently approximately $87) Before booking a one-star hotel room, there are certain things of which you should be aware. Some rooms do include a shower and toilet, but this is not a given. In the old days it was not uncommon to have a room with just a sink, and the toilet down the hall.
Here, you have the option of having a shower and toilet in your room. These hotels work out just fine if you only have one or two days in Paris and plan on spending most of the day visiting the city. Not only that but you can get back at forth to CDG without too much hassle.
I found this listing of other hotels located near RER B stops. There’s some conflicting information regarding breakfast – one site lists breakfasts at 5 Euros and another site states that breakfasts are included. (Normally, in Paris breakfast is not included in a hotel rate, but maybe this is open for negotiation?).
Another good thing about the Floridor is its proximity to the Montparnasse train station (it’s about a ten to fifteen minute walk to Gare Montparnasse which is very handy for our friends from Brittany) or if you plan on taking a train out to Chartres for the day.
