Winter Wonderland: Stade de France

In October, Rugby fans of the world were zeroing in on St. Denis’s Stade de France as the finals of the Rugby World Cup approached. In a few weeks, Stade de France will be transformed into a ski resort for those that might not be able to make it to such posh resorts as St. Moritz. Milka: Reve de Neige opens December 22nd and will continue through to January 6th.

Parisinfo.com reports that, in 2006, 50,000 visitors trekked up to Stade de France to take advantage of such attractions as a ” surf simulator, a 70 meter long ski slope, a frozen waterfall, a 1,250 square meter skating rink, an ice garden, a working farm (?) an adventure trail, a trapper trail, two rope bridges, a sled run, rock climbing walls, a water wall - and more”

Although this program was originally intended for folks that might not be able to afford ski vacations at French resorts, it appears that the idea of a winter resort just outside of Paris appeals to residents and visitors alike.

Getting to St. Denis is easy. You can hop on the #13 Metro line which will take you straight from Montparnasse to the town of St. Denis which is located to the north of Paris.
