When Eric tells me where his father likes to dine, I know this has to be good advice. But usually he mentions these pearls of wisdom as we are sipping on champagne - and quite honestly by the next day - my photographic memory has been perfectly erased. A few days ago, he sent me a restaurant review of one of those restaurants he had mentioned at least on two occasions. It’s called Le Cameleon. And it’s in our Montparnasse neighborhood at 6, rue de Chevreuse. Metro: Vavin. Tel. 01 43 27 43 27.
The chef, Jean Paul-Arabian has stacked up a formidable list of references (having spent some time at Le Doyen to mention one of them). But the fact that Eric’s Dad likes this place is reference enough for me. Figaro’s restaurant reviewer gave Le Cameleon a thumbs up with one reservation concerning a dessert that didn’t live up to the rest of the meal - but at 25 Euros for lunch (this is a very ‘correct’ price) one isn’t looking for Baked Alaska either.
Sad to say, I must bide my time until we are back on Parisian soil, so if you are lucky enough to be in the Montparnasse neighborhood, maybe you can post your impressions! Yes, Mark, I was thinking of you and Angelique!

This is great news that this restaurant is still around. I had seen some references on the internet that it was closed.
Patricia Wells includes it in A Food Lover’s Guide to Paris, and includes one of their recipes for a pear cake that is one of the best desserts I’ve ever made.
