4th of July, 1918. Although World War II is ever-present in the minds and media of America, it’s really World War I that had the greatest impact on France - for generations. If you want to see how US troops were welcomed on French soil - and if you have any doubts about the ties between France and the US, take a look at this site, The Great War in a Different Light and reflect! Be sure to scroll down to US troops in Paris on the 4th of July.

World War I has affected many lives on both sides of the ocean. I wouldn’t be in Paris today if it hadn’t been for the fact that my husband’s father spent three days in Paris during World War I. He volunteered as an ambulance driver and was given three days leave in Paris. He told his son many years later - “If you ever have a chance, go to Paris!”
