Planning a trip to Paris? This might be a little ‘too casual’ for Paris. In Normandy, we can get a way with a little casual, but if you’re flying into Paris, you might want to re-think your shorts and t-shirt. For a day at the beach - this is fine, but shorts rarely fit into the urban landscape, be it New York, Shanghai or Paris.
This particular photo was shot during one of Normandy’s sunniest summers (1990) which happened to be, not surprisingly, an excellent Bordeaux year.
The reason I remember this summer is because I told Chris it ALWAYS rains in Normandy. This particular summer, we didn’t have a drop of rain for the entire summer.
Packing can be tricky. Always bringing swimming trunks and suits - they can come in handy. Just don’t plan on wearing them on the Champs!

But then you again you CAN wear cowboy boots - and that’s very cool. My friend Heidi wore her cowboy boots back in the seventies - I don’t know how cool they were in those days - but there is definitely a place for cowboy boots - the romantic aura of the American West is an image that holds strong in the French imagination. Mary Meerson at the Cinematheque Francaise used to compare herself to ‘Sitting Bull’.
So, if you have Western gear, bring it, flaunt it.
Gotta love that guy’s great smile though…that really makes him well-dressed enough for anywhere.
Yes, researchgirl, something to say for happiness and enjoyment! Whoa!
Definitely, he has oodles of charisma. There’s a story about the leg bandage too. That was the result of a spirited soccer match with 8 year old Nicolas (who is now quite a bit older). Tanked a trip to Spain and Portugal, but does this guy look sad? Who can be sad on a sunny day in Normandy.
Life’s a beach.
Oh darn!
