It’s a weird feeling when all your STUFF is in transit. For a number of years, we have been - and still are SDF (which in French means Sans Domicile Fixe) Without a fixed domicile. It technically would mean ‘homeless’. We have a roof over our head - but our belongings are currently someplace else. Either on the high seas, or docked in Le Havre - mostly books. A lot of books. And plenty of breakable knick-knacks that wouldn’t mean much to anyone else but are an accumulation of our travels over the past twenty years.
The ship should have docked two days ago. Which means we may have all our ’stuff’ under one roof (even if we still aren’t under one roof most of the time). Meanwhile the apartment back Stateside has become incredibly minimalist. Sometimes it’s a nice thing to be liberated from all the accumulations - for a while. But it will also be reassuring to get that phone call saying that all the boxes are on their way and will be sure to have enough reading material to last us through to the next millenium.
To date, the moving process has been very smooth on the Stateside of the operation. Let’s see how phase II progresses. We chose to go with the company Alllied Arthur Pierre who has been in contact with us from the outset of the move.
