Using the Internet Cafe in France

You’ve just arrived in France and the first thing you want to do is send an e-mail to your friends back home. Or you have an urgent last minute message to send off for work before you can enjoy your vacation. You walk into the internet cafe and are confronted with:
AZERT. That is, the French Key Board. AZERT is the placement of the top lefthand keys on a French keyboard (or clavier) as opposed to QUERTY which is what the English keyboard uses. If that’s not confusing enough, then you discover that your password codes don’t seem to be working. If you use a password with numbers, you should use the numbers on the right hand side calculator rather than the numbers on the top row of the keyboard. You will also note to use the @ sign or ‘arabesque’ as it’s called in French you’ll have to hit the control key which is located on the lower right row about where you would finally find the ‘M’ on an English keyboard. Some internet cafes do have English keyboards but not all of them. The internet cafe I use that does have English keyboards is Cybercube which is located on Rue Odessa in Montparnasse (Metro: Edgar Quinet or Vavin)
