What would have happened if Louis XV had married Empress Elizabeth of Russia rather than Marie Leczinska of Poland? If Elizabeth had married Louis XV,she would have probably not remained in Russia long enough to choose Catherine the Great as the daughter for the Archduke Peter and there may never have been a Catherine the Great, and there never would have been a Russia as we know it today.
But one thing for sure, Elizabeth would have had a heyday in Paris. Even though she was a long way off from Paris, she managed to buy enough hats from a Parisian milliner to have her line of credit cut off. The hats were destined to accessorize some 15,000 dresses.
If Elizabeth had become Queen of France, there’s a good chance that the French revolution may have been moved up a notch.
