Paris will be host to the Rugby World Cup championship in September and I’m excited – it doesn’t matter that I don’t know the first thing about rugby.
According to Loic Gate, my ‘Rugby advisor in France’:
“For the first time in its history, The Rugby World Cup will be held in France for 2007.”

Here’s what Loic also had to say about the upcoming World Cup:
“New Zealand, after having beat all the other teams since its last tour in Europe, will be the grand favorite for this competition.
The French team continues to prepare. The results of its last 6 Nations tournament has up until now been very positive, the French team having won all of its matches. That leaves England and Scotland. If France succeeds, it will do the Grand Chelem which will give France a big boost of confidence toward the World Cup.
The team has its veteran players – Ibanez, Dominici, Pelous… who give a perfect framework for promising young players who bring their dynamism to the team (Beauxis, Skrela, Michalak…) The coach, Bernard Laporte, pulled out all the stops to select the best team possible for the World Cup.

If you’re looking for places in Paris to watch rugby or talk rugby with a local, Grant was nice enough to leave a post on Paris Logue about Cafe de la Liberte, Metro: Edgar Quinet.
Grant says that the owner Andre, who hails from Rodez, in Aveyron, France is a big rugby fan – and not only that he’s a pretty good cook as well.
