Le Figaro reports today that your normally uncheery shopkeepers have enough more reason to grumble. Bad weather has had an impact on summer sales which normally begin in early July. June weather was pretty miserable and July has not been enough of an improvement to make us eager to go out and buy. So, if you wander into a clothing store this summer and find the shopkeepers to be frowning, it’s not you. It’s the weather.
Le Figaro doesn’t mention how much the dismal exchange rate between the Euro and the U.S. dollar have impacted sales, but if your shopping budget is tight while in Paris, here are some places where you might think about buying a souvenir clothing item:
Monoprix
Innos (which is part of Monoprix) located on Rue du Depart, Metro: Montparnasse.
Subway shops. (There are small boutiques located in some of the subways especially near the shopping districts of the Grand Boulevards like Havre-Caumartin stop).
The Camaieux chain has reasonably priced skirts and pants.
H&M
The chicline.com ‘annuaire’ or directory is a handy starting place!
Summer t-shirts, camisoles, or ‘debardeurs’ are easy to pack and can be very creative in design.
