Rights for Grandparents

In France, visitation rights for grandparents are the law. Le Figaro reports today that parents must have some pretty strong reasons why the kids can’t visit their grandparents - the grandparents have the right to invite the kids to their homes and also to help out with their education. So, here’s your chance to shell out the couple hundred thousand to put them through Harvard if that’s what you REALLY want to do.

In Scotland we have been campaigning for visitation rights for grandparents to see their grandchildren but so far we have only managed to get ‘The Charter for Grandchildren’ which is for guidelines only and is not really of use. We at http://www.grandparentsaprt.co.uk nsfw would be obliged for more information on Rights for Grandparents in France.

I was remiss in not including the link to the January 2nd article in Le Figaro which is archived now, but I’m asking friends (who are grandparents) if they have more news about this law. In the meantime, have you checked out Canada’s laws on visitation rights for grandsparents?
Microsoft Word - Droit de visite des grands-parents Fnl01.doc. This will be a subject that I will continue to follow - and will post whenever there’s news.
