The annual Paris-Dakar Rally which has been an institution since 1979 has been canceled this year because of terrorism threats. The organizers insist that the safety of participants comes first. The killing of four French tourists in a Mauritanian town through which rally participants pass, coupled with advisories from French intelligence were reasons for the cancellation.

The Mauritanian government had planned to place 4000 military personal in bivouacs at various points along the route. Ba Madine, the Minister of Tourism in Mauritania says, “When there’s a terrorist menace, the best way to deal with it is to confront it.”

Amazing! Simply amazing. The world continues to dance to terrorist tunes. Such an event held mercy to low forms of sub-human species. This is a wonderful world as someone once said providing a hybrid form of humanoid could be removed before it removes the world itself. Not asking forgiveness, mercy or lordship but looks to the civilized human form to counter this driving everyone to the lowest common denominator. Life is short as it is and to enjoy this amazing planet should be near the top of lifes agenda. Cancelling the Dakar leaves a big hole in where future events may go. Sad. Very sad.
