Les Choristes and the Academy Awards

The soundtrack to Les Choristes was a great hit in Paris this past summer so it was nice to see that it received a nomination for the Academy Awards. But how are judges supposed to compare choir boys with Antonio Banderas and Santana? Seems like apples and oranges. And was I the only one who had trouble understanding Beyonce’s French?
Would have been a friendly gesture on the part of the Academy Awards organizers to invite a French choir group or a native French speaking soloist.
