Even if you are visiting the museum for the first time, be sure to take advantage of special exhibits. The Maurice Denis is currently on display until January 21st. Maurice Denis was the theoretician and one of the three major contributors to the Nabi movement. The Musee D’Orsay offers a detailed write-up (in English) of this exhibit that will whet your appetite to get a well rounded view of an artist who reminded us that before a painting becomes a representation of a person or a horse, it is first and foremost a flat surface covered with colors put together in a certain order.

This exhibit not only includes his early works but also photographs taken of his contemporaries. Another possibility is taken a Maurice Denis walk which will show you some of the buildings in Paris that were inspired by his design. (Theatre des Champs Elysees and Notre Dame de Raincy for example).
