Little Versailles in Paris

Hotel Particuliers or aristocratic townhouses are in a realm that few of us encounter when we come to Paris, but on rare occasions you do get a glimpse of the gilded life. If you’re eager to give your French language skills a good test, here’s a golden opportunity.

On Thursday, May 10th, at 7:45 pm Marc Soleranski will be conducting a tour of the Duc de Lauzon’s ‘hotel particulier’ located in the heart of Paris - Ile St. Louis. If you are interested in participating in this tour - you can reserve a place at Tel. 01 42 78 14 96. Participants will meet at 7:45 pm in front of No. 17 Quai d’Anjou on the Ile St. Louis, Metro: Pont Marie.

You can read a description and history of the Hotel de Lauzun in English at the Paris.online site:

If you are not in Paris for this date, keep in mind that the Rodin Museum is also located in a hotel particulier. Le Musee Carnavalet has reconstructed various rooms from different time periods that will also give you an idea of an elegance which has all but evaporated into exhaust fumes.
