Grocery Shopping in Paris

Open air markets are great for fresh produce but for non-French speakers the experience of trying to communicate may be intimidating. There are times when you might want to find a grocery store and when this is the case, I head for INNOS. INNOS is part of the Monoprix chain, but it’s retained its identity as supermarket de luxe (comparable to a Wegmans or a Cristedes for example).
Located on Rue du Depart (Metro: Montparnasse) or Metro: Edgar Quinet, this grocery store has two levels. The top level is devoted to clothing, sundries and paper supplies. The lower level is the grocery store section with a good wine section, imported food section, and best of a all a decent brand of Cheddar cheese. There are plenty of choices in the deli section including foie gras.
