Riot gear, tear gas and approximately 100 people clashing with police at the Gare du Nord train station. How did this clash erupt? According to an AP news report written by Jamey Keaton, when a RATP ticket checker asked a passenger for his ticket he allegedly responded by punching the RATP agent. Aside from clashes between police and youths, breaking of shop windows and pillaging of stores occurred.

Gare du Nord is the train terminal for Eurostar, connecting Paris to London.
