Le Parisien or L’Aujourd’hui as the national publication is called, may not be considered a highbrow newspaper like Le Monde, but I’ve gotten into the habit of picking up this newspaper which I can get either in Paris or in Normandy (L’Aujourd’hui) for 75 centimes.
If you do read French, I’d encourage you to visit their site. You will read French as it’s spoken. My Sorbonne professors would probably be disappointed that I wouldn’t recommend Le Monde, but for beginning French, you will probably find Le Parisien to be more accessible. To my knowledge, Le Parisien doesn’t have English translations so on occasion if I find some important articles, I try to highlight them for you (and naturally provide links when possible).
Today, for example, on Page 7 under the USA: The Hunt for Bin Laden Continues, this quote from our president, George Bush, was included: “We are in Iraq at the invitation of the Iraki government. It’s a sovereign nation. If the Iraquis say, “Go!”, we will go.”
I read this quote in “Aujourd’hui” this morning. Has anyone else read or heard this quote?
Imagine the possibility that simply two simple letters could end a war.
GO.
Something to think about.
