Beach rugby, in honor of this year’s Rugby World Cup, starting Sept 8th in Paris, is just one of the new additions to Paris Plage which is multiplying - there are now THREE locales to go to the ‘beach’ in Paris. Paris Plage opens TOMORROW, July 20th 2007 at 8 am.
The traditional 3 kilometer stretch between the Metro stop: Louvre (Line 1)and Metro: Pont du Sully Metro: Sully MOrland (LIne 7) is where you’ll find beach rugby.
If you’re looking for a Josephine Baker swimming pool, free lectures, music and free wi-fi, go to Le Port de la Gare in front of the Grande Bibliotheque, Metro: Le Port de la Gare (LIne 6) or Bercy (Line 14).
For 2 Euros, you can hop on the Navette which connects these two locales at Pont Marie, or you can hop on and off the Batobus at Hotel de Ville.
Paris Plage’s newest locale is La Villette. Metro: Jaures The Villette plage extends from the Rotonde de Ledoux to the old Magasins Generaux on Rue de Crimee. During the weekends there’s a free shuttle boat connecting the Bassin de la Villette with le parc Bergere de Bobigny.
The Paris Plage is open from 8 am to midnight starting tomorrow, July 20th until August 19th. Paris Info.com reminds you, “Don’t forget your suntan location and your shades!”
(The www.paris.fr site to which I’ve linked provides detailed info about Paris Plage - in French, and less detailed in English! That’s the reason I’ve tried my best to translate for Parislogue readers what may get ‘lost in translation’ for strictly Anglophone readers! I’ve noticed this seems to be a dilemma on a number of French/English sites, especially the www.ratp.fr site which posts the description of certain cards such as the Mobilis only in French. What is the reason for this? Anybody out there willing to take a wager?
