Is it possible that the French government has greater esteem for the venerable ole Ben Franklin than our very own US of A? I just received a note from ‘Ben’ even though it was not written with a quill pen. Apparently the French embassy is flying Ben to Paris for a special event sponsored by the French American Foundation this December at the Chateau de Vincennes. To date, Ben hasn’t heard word from the American Embassy in Paris, so he’s not sure how he will be able to afford his daily meals while staying in this fair city. Much has changed since his first visit when he would have been assured of fine lodging in a ‘hotel particulier’. Ah, Ben! This is not necessarily a kinder and gentler millenium. To quote a great song, the theme for this millenium is, “Wht have you done for me lately?”
If anyone is interested in Mr. Franklin’s plight, and for those that are interested in keeping the spirit of friendship and ’solidarity’ alive between France and the US, not to mention keeping the memory of our U.S. statesmen a ‘living history’, you can inquire at www.BenFranklin.org.
