For some of us Americans in Paris, The International Herald Tribune is a crucial link with news back home. My husband purchases his copy daily. You can find the IHT at many newsstands in Paris for a whopping 2.50 Euros (still a lot cheaper than a pack of cigarettes).
Some French readers choose the IHT to practice their English reading and writing skills. Don’t use this doozy of a run-on sentence as your guideline for sentence structure!
“These Democrats-15 governors, members of Congress and state party leaders-say Obama has yet to convert his popularity among many Americans into solutions to crucial electoral challenges:showing ownership of an issue, like economic stewardship or national security; winning over supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton, whom he defeated for the Democratic nomination; and minimizing his race and experience level as concerns for voters.”
(“Aides Tell Obama It’s Time to Get Specific, IHT August 18, 2008)
The fact that Obama did defeat Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination is buried in issues and solutions.
