Camembert on my mind


Today, we made our second trip to the little village of Camembert in Normandy in the past two weeks. It occurred to me that in the last month we’ve been eating a LOT of camembert cheese and I am certain that the 45 % fat content, or even 23% (if you include the water) fat content is starting to catch up with me. We had lunch today at a restaurant in neighboring Vitou which is called the Escale Vitou. The new chef, Guy H. is fantastically warm and outgoing. He grew up in the Mayenne which is a region close to Orne. His parents are French and Camerounian. Aside from being in the restaurant business, he’s also been in radio.
Try the tarte normande. High kudos for this restaurant owner for featuring cider from local cider makers. Here, near Vimoutiers, Orne, and neighboring Calvados, you are in the heart of cider-producing country.
